Why have some historians rejected the labels BC and AD as labels for periods in world history?

Because they are not culturally inclusive. They are based solely on Christianity:

BC = Before Christ

AD = Anno domini ( Latin for in the year of the Lord)

Now, it is referred to as BCE.
