Five times the sum of 1 and some number is -15. what is the number?

5 × 1 × ? = -15 the answer is -3 as you need the negative to make your answer negative and 5×1=5 and 5×3=15 your answer is -3

Your equation is 5(1 + x) = -15. Using the distributive property, you would get 5 + 5x + -15. Subtract 5 from both sides to get 5x = -20. Divide by 5 to get -4.
