I believe that those two thoughts are democracy and separation of powers that were heavily influenced by the enlightenment. There are great philosophers of that time that gave emphasis on reasoning to achieve it. Even the Declaration of Independence is an output of this development. The framers of the Constitution were also motivated by this kind of liberty for the people.
