Kendra and Patricia both leave the internet cafe at the same time, but in opposite directions. If Patricia travels 7 mph faster than Kendra and after 5 hours they are 175 miles apart, how fast is each traveling?

They would be at the same distance even if one stood still, and the other traveled at the sum of their speed. In this case, to travel 175 miles in 5 hour, you need a velocity [tex]k+p=\frac{175}{5} mph[\tex]. (Divide, or grab a calculator). Then, you know [tex] p= k+7[\tex], just substitute and you get the two values.
