If atp hydrolysis took place in an acidic solution such that it no longer carried negative charges, how would you predict that the free energy released would change?

The correct answer is that less free energy will be released.

This would happen because, usually the high negative charge density associated with the three adjacent P (phosphate) units of ATP destabilizes the molecule, making it higher in energy. In an acidic solution that no longer carries negative charges, ATP molecule will have less energy.
