None of them is correct, When you do

`x^(2) =-4`

It become this:

`√(x)`²
`=√(-4)`

you cancel the ² with
`\sqrt{}` or square root. However this cause the problem since -4 is negative and there isn't just one answer because of square root.

i =
`√(-1)`

`x= i√(4)` or
`x=-i√(4)`

Square root the 4, the final answer is

`x=2i` or
`x=-2i`
