A new long-life tire has a tread depth of 1/4

inches, instead of the more typical 7/32
inches.
How much deeper is the new tire?

8/32 would be 1/4 (multiply 1*8 / 4*8 to get 8/32)

8/32 - 7/32 = 1/32

The new tire is 1/32 deeper than the regulation tire. If you need the decimal it is 1/32 = 0.03125
