When the lines are parallel, the interior angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary or the summation of measurements both of the angels are 180.

Or if the interior angles on the same side of the transversal are supplementary, then the lines are parallel.

As m∠2 + m∠5 = 180, so lines a and b are parallel.
