The answer is reincarnation.
In the dharmic religions (Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism), and also Sikhism the wheel of life is a mandala or symbolic representation of samsara, the continuous cycle of birth, life, death over and over again, otherwise known as reincarnation. Every time we die we are reborn in a new physical form but with the same soul.
