When i use " / " its the bar between, the divider.


X = - 2( 6 - iy - 3i ) / 3


Y = 3( x - 2i + 4 ) / 2i

Answer: x= -4 and y=-3

Explanation:

We know that a complex number is given by :-


z=a+bi , where a = real part and b = imaginary part .

When two complex number are equal then

  • their corresponding real part are equal.
  • their corresponding imaginary part are equal.

Given equation represents two complex numbers are equal.


9x-18i=-36+6yi

⇒ corresponding real part are equal.

⇒ 9x=-36

⇒ x= -4 [Divide both sides by 9]

Also, corresponding imaginary part are equal.

⇒ -18= 6y [coefficient of i]

⇒ -3=y [Divide both sides by 6]

Therefore , the values of x and y are -4 and -3 respectively.
