Why do senators have higher age and residency requirements than members of the House of Representatives

While members of the House of Representatives are in office for 2 year terms and can be reelected every even year, Senators serve 6 years in office and the re-elections are staggered over even years, and only 1/3 of the senators can be up for reelection.
