Distribute 1/4 to all terms within the parenthesis

9 - 5 = 4

1/4(16x + 60) = (16x + 60)/4 = 4x + 15

4 = 4x + 15

Isolate the x. Note the equal sign. What you do to one side, you do to the other.

Subtract 15 from both sides

4 = 4x + 15

4 (-15) = 4x + 15 (-15)

4 - 15 = 4x

-11 = 4x

Isolate the x. Divide 4 from both sides

(-11)/4 = (4x)/4

x = -11/4

hope this helps
