Remember to follow PEMDAS. Note the equal sign, what you do to one side, you do to the other.

First, distribute -4 to all terms within the parenthesis

-4(k + 4) = -4k - 16

10k - 4k - 16 = 6k + 30

Isolate the k. Subtract 6k from both sides and add 16 to both sides

10k -4k (-6k) - 16 (+16) = 6k (-6k) + 30 (+16)

10k - 6k -4k = 30 + 16

Simplify

10k - 10k = 46

0 ≠ 46

This equation is not solvable.

hope this helps
