How are atoms related to elements

Atoms are what make up the elements. It's just differences between those groups of atoms that make the distinctive elements that we know and use today in the Periodic Table. The differences between two very unlike elements could really be just one proton or one neutron, but it causes a large change because of the physical interactions that differ between it and other things.

Hope this helped :)
