What are the steps that hospitals do too prepare you for surgery the day of surgery?

Step 3: Pre-register and complete hospital forms

Step 4: Know where you are going: Review the hospital map

Step 5: Arrange for someone to drive you home

On the day of the Surgery sometimes they don't let you eat

Depends what kind of surgery that you are having, but usually you can not eat for 24 hours before the surgery and you have an iv put in your vein and then from there it depends on the type of surgery.
