The Lascaux paintings seem to indicate that there was an abundance of large game animals during prehistoric times.

The statement is - true.

The Lascaux paintings suggest that during prehistoric times there were animals of greater size roaming in Europe, such a bigger species of elk, orox, wild horses, cave lions, giant hyenas, european jaguar etc. They are all nicely depicted on the cave walls in the Lascaux cave in France.
