Looks as tho' you wanted to multiply 4y and 8y. That comes out to 32y^2.

Anyone who can display Latex correctly should be able to get the hang of algebra quickly.

Multiply the numbers (called numerical coefficients) together: 4 * 8 = 32

Now multiply the letters together. That is a bit harder. y * y

Two Rules

When a letter sits by itself, it is assumed to have a power of 1.

When two letters are multiplied together and the letters are the same the powers are added.

y^(1 + 1) = y^(2)

Answer

32
y^(2)
