Acids are the general name of an aqueous compounds where hydrogen is a cation.

An acid is a compound or ion which has ability to donate
H^(+) ion or proton. When acid is dissolved in aqueous solution, then it is capable for donating proton or
H^(+) ion.

General equation in aqueous solution:

HA\rightarrow H^(+)+A^(-)

HA is an acid which dissociates into
H^(+) (cation) and A^(-) (anion).

Thus, general name is acid.
