b^2-4ac , with a = x^2 coefficient, b = x coefficient, and c = constant. Using that formula, our equation is
(-5)^2-4*3*4

  1. Firstly, solve the exponent and multiplications:
    25-48
  2. Next, do the subtraction, and your discriminant is -23.

Now because the discriminant is less than zero, there are no real solutions.
