The Non-Commissioned Officers faced racial violence and illegal drug use during the 1970’s or by the end of Vietnam War. More than 200 servicemen died because of drug overdoses during the war, 42 soldiers and 15 marines were killed from "fragging" attacks.

Moreover, by 1980’s the problem soldiers and the non-commissioned officers from the Vietnam War are dismissed within its ranks and the army began to impose discipline during the training.
