The current model of the cell membrane, also known as the Fluid Mosaic Model was first discovered in 1972 by two scientists named Seymour Jonathan Singer and Garth L. Nicolson.
They stated that the membrane is formed by a lipid bilayer and that the protein and charbohydrates are on top of it. According to them the cell membrane is a two-dimesnional liquid.
