It's a plant.

That lets out A B C and E. None of them are correct with the exception of possibly B which might be classed (in some cases) as an plant.

I don't know how invasive they can be, but they are fast growing. Your answer must be D. When you look at pictures of this growth, it almost looks like a carpet of grass. It is also other places than Japan. The US has this stuff, but I couldn't tell you where. Our winters are likely too long to have such a thing growing here, but we might have it. I get the feeling if it is anywhere in Canada, it would be in Southern Ontario, but that has not been mentioned.
