The invention of the cotton gin helped in increasing the importance of cotton as a cash crop in the South thru making it possible to make long-stable and sell it at high prices. Since processing did not require a lot of labor, a lot more people work able to work the fields and produce more long-stable. Slavery got a new breath in life when profitability was restored.
