Some of the African-Americans in the Northern Cities use "New Negro" in order to refer themselves because it is their way of expressing their ejection of the accomodationism in Washington. This term was well-known in the Harlem Renaissance which implied an advocacy of dignity and the rejection to quietly submit to the laws and practice of the racial segregation of Jim Crow.
