The time taken in History assignment = 2/5 hour

Time taken in English assignment = 1/3 hour

Total time should be the sum of time taken in doing assignment of history and time taken in doing assignment of English

Let us add up these two time : ( 2/5 ) +( 1/3)

both fractions have different number in the bottom

to sum up the two fractions we need to have same number in both the fractions

let us start with finding least common denominator

the smallest number which is divisible by 5 as well as by 3 is : 15

so let us try to make 15 in the denominator of both fractions

first fraction need to be multiply by 3/3 and second fraction need to be multiplied by 5/5

3 * 2 + 5* 1

= 6 + 5

( 6 + 5) /15 = 11/15 hour
