Let's solve this problem step by step!


(12b^(2) +1)-(-8b^(2) )

Remove the parenthesis between the first sum.


12b^(2) +1-(-8b^(2) )

Work out the parenthesis that are left. Remember that multiplying a negative by a negative makes you end up with a positive outcome.


12b^(2) +1+8b^(2)

And finally collect the terms. We can only add the
b^(2). We then find the following solution


20b^(2) +1

Use the formula
c-(-d)=c+d, where c and d are expressions.

Thus,


(12b^2+1)-(-8b^2)=12b^2+1+8b^2=20b^2+1
