The null hypothesis is a contrived statement set up to examine whether it can be rejected as part of hypothesis testing. When a result is not extreme enough to reject the null hypothesis,it is wrong to conclude that the result supports the null hypothesis because the research hypothesis is correct, but the result in the particular sample was not extreme enough to be able to reject the null hypothesis.
