It was johnny. He was very quiet, because he had an a.b.u.s.i.v.e. father and a while back , a mean soc named bob and his gang b.e.a.t him ruthlessly.

I would say Johnny, who is the "pet/puppy" of the gang, even though Ponyboy is also more on the reserved side compared to the other Greasers.
