The significance of the first chapter: Bonaparte Blenkins Makes His Nest" is the introduction of the character that will be critical in the story. Bonaparte Blenkins making his nest signifies that he was able to penetrate the household of Tant Sannie. He was able to assuage the doubts of Tant Sannie and gain her trust making him a trusted stranger. Just as with a nest, it becomes a home, a refuge. Since Blenkins was able to gain the trust of the household, he was successful on making his target his new home. Eventually, he would abuse the trust given to him and betray people in the story.
