Dividing my dogs age by 4 and adding 6 is the same as dividing my dogs age by 8 and adding 8.

X/4 + 6 = X/8 + 8

How old is my dog?

Your dog is 16.

Steps

1. Simplify both sides of the equation. (x/4 to 1/4x an x/8 to 1/8x)

Isolate the variable:

2. Subtract 1/8x from both sides.

3. Subtract 6 from both sides.

4. Multiply both sides by 8.
