The period of time during which long cold spells were predominate was called the Ice Age. An Ice Age is a long term period of time in which the Earth’s temperature declines and results in continental ice sheets and glaciers in both northern and southern hemispheres. In all of the Earth’s history, five major ice ages have been recorded.
