You are choosing between two different cell phone plans. the first plan charges a rate of 24 cents per minute. the second plan charges a monthly fee of $44.95 plus 10 cents per minute. how many minutes would you have to use in a month in order for the second plan to be preferable?

x is the number of minutes per month. The plans are equal when

.24 x = 44.95 + .10 x

.14 x = 44.95

x = 44.95/.14 = 321 \frac 1 {14} \textrm{ minutes}

Assuming they round to the nearest minute, 322 minutes per month or more for the second plan to be preferable.
