Surface area is the total area of each face. For the square base, multiply .5 by .5. This should give you .25 for the square base. For the triangular lateral bases, multiply .5 by 9, which should give you 4.5. Since there are 4 bases, multiply 4.5 by 4, which should give you 18. Add that to .5, which gives you 18.5.

For some reason, 18.5 is not shown. My assumption is then to divide it in half, which gives you 9.25.

The area of a triangle ( one side of the pyramid) is 1/2 x base x height.

he base is given as 0.5 foot and the height is given as 9 feet.

The area of one side is: 1/2 x 0.5 x 9 = 2.25 square feet.

There are 4 sides to the pyramid, so total area for the sides is: 2.25 x 4 = 9 square feet.

The area of the base is 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25 square feet.

The total area = 9 + 0.25 = 9.25 square feet.
