To determine the common ratio of a geometric sequence. You just need to divide any two consecutive terms on it. You can see below that all of them have the same quotient. Therefore, the common ratio between successive terms in the sequence.

THat is the value which you multiply each term by, to get the nest term:-


for example the common ratio for the sequence 2 , 4, 8, 16 is 2


because 2*2 = 4

4 * 2 = 8

8 * 2 = 16
