Given p(A) = 3/8, find p(not A)

For any set of outcomes the total probability but be equal to 1, by definition:

P(total)=1

We also know that any event and its compliment, for example
A and
not A, partition the probability space, i.e.:


P(A)+P(not A)=1

Therefore:

P(not A)=1-P(A)

P(not A)=1-(3)/(8)

P(not A)=(5)/(8)
