Occurred in june 1972, when five plumbers (nixon's private police) broke into the democratic national headquarters in washington
d.c. with the intention of bugging the office. the burglary and nixon's involvement in planning and covering up the burglary were brought to light by washington post reporters bob woodward and carl bernstein. the subsequent investigation and senate hearing prompted nixon to resign in 1974.
