Adam had some candy to give to his three children. He first took seven pieces for himself and then evenly divided the rest among his children. If Adam started with 13 pieces, how many did each child receive?

First you do
13-7 since he already took those for himself. Now u have to divide 6, the remainder, by 3 since there are 3 children. 6 divided by 3 = 2

So each child received 2 pieces of candy

Adam took 7 pieces so subtract it from the total.

13 - 7 = 6
He divided the rest to his 3 children

(6)/(3) = 2
Each child recieved 2 candies.
