You have $80. Jeans cost $29 and shirts cost $12. Mom told you to buy one pair of jeans amd use the rest of the money to buy shirts. Use this information to write and solve and inequality describing how many shirts you can buy.

X=Amount Of Shirts You Can Buy
Step One:

You Have $80 And You Buy One Pair Of Jeans
(80-29) Which Would Give You 51

Step 2:

Divide That By The Cost Of A Shirt Which Is $12 And Get 4.25. You Can Buy 4 Shirts

So This Would Be The Equation Used: 80-29-12x

x = jeans
y= shirts

29x + 12y = 80

you can only buy one pair of jeans so let x=1 and then solve for y to determine the amount of shirts you can buy

29(1) + 12y = 80
29 +12y = 80
12y = 51
y= 4.25

since you can't buy 1/4th of a shirt, you drop the decimal

you can buy 4 shirts.
