An equation that can be used to find the number of labour hours is "265+48x=553."

265 → cost of the parts
48x → labour cost per hour
553 → total cost for repair bill

You can start to solve the equation by subtracting 265 from both sides so that "48x" is isolated.
265+48x=553
-265 -265
----------------------
48x=288

Divide 48 on both sides to find x.
48x=288
------ ------
48 48
x=6

X is equal to 6, which then means that 6 hours of labour were spent repairing the car.

Really all you need to do is write the addition equation and use n for an unknown number, and b for the total bill.

Your equation would be: $553 + $265 + 48n = b

Or, simplified: $818 + 48n = b
