The correct answer is the following: option A. When the Space Race began, the United States realized that the USSR could use rockets to carry nuclear weapons. After the Second World War ended, a new conflict began, known as the Cold War. It was the communist Soviet Union against the capitalist power of the United States. By the end of 1950's, each power started to compete against each other in the Space arena, trying to prove which one had superior technology to get to Space.

On October 4th, 1957, the USSR launched Sputnik and the Spage Age. This Event gave the impression that the United States were behind the Soviet Union when it came to Space technology, and Americans started to realize that the Soviets could take advantage of that superiority to carry nuclear weapons through their rockets.
