I believe that this is a true statement...

For instance, many times in Shakespeare’s works accents marking are used to stress certain syllables to maintain the characteristic meter of his plays. To uphold iambic pentameter, which is five groupings of unstressed and stress syllables, Shakespeare would utilize acdent marking to alter the feel and pronunciation of words in the characters’ dialogue, narrations, and prologues.
