Why did women initially find it hard to be accepted in the workplace?

Because the men did so much and the woman where supposed to just stay home and do chores and stuff

well in the old times women were more likely to stay in home, take care of children, food and chores, while men were the ones who performed all the hard work. I think that women find it hard to fit in.
