In mathematics, the distributive property is a property that allows you to further simplify equations. It is, in fact, one of the most frequently used properties in math. Distribution refers to the distributive property over multiplication, which allows you to do things like having 5(3+9) equal 5(9) + 5(3), so the distributive property basically lets you multiply a sum by multiplying, then adding each of the addends.
