Liberia differ from most other African countries in its experience with European imperialism in that it was not really colonized by the Europeans. This is because it was established and controlled by the United States as a colony for formers slaves. This made it unattractive as a target during the scramble for Africa.

Liberia effectively opposed colonization as a result of an organization together with the US. It was likewise, successfully already a colony since it was founded and run altogether by African-Americans, not the indigenous Liberian populace.

Liberia is a nation in West Africa which was established, built up, colonized, and controlled by citizens of the US and ex-Caribbean slaves as a settlement for former African American slaves and their free offspring.
