Clostridium difficile colitis is a medical condition where the bacteria Clostridium difficile causes an infection in the colon. It produces toxins damaging the lining of the intestine. The usual disinfectants are ineffective in killing the spores of the bacteria. Aside from antibiotic treatment of the infected, precautions can also help:

Precautions:

· Practice contact precaution and frequent and proper hand washing.

· Keep client in a private room.

· Wear disposable gowns during care. Dispose of the gown after every single use.

· Clean the room surfaces with chlorine bleach.
