The Growth of the spore-producing organism takes place by mitosis. Moisture helps the cells divide.
However, the spores must also be attached to something that will provide food for them.
These organisms cannot make their own food. When the spore has enough moisture and food provided for it, mitosis continues and the spore grows into an adult organism.
