Great plain is the name for the flat land that lies west of the Mississippi River tallgrass prairie in the United States and east of the Rocky Mountains in the U.S. and Canada.
To have meat whenever they wanted it, great plains people blocked herds and kept them penned.
Herds were hunted to near extinction during the mid/late-19th century.
