Randolph met with Truman and Congress and promised to fight against the draft if it was not amended. Truman needed black votes. As a result, he conceded and abolished racial segregation in the armed forces. On 2 February 1948 President Truman issued an executive order ending segregation of the Armed Forces of the United States
