Slavery was around for a while, but why did people want to abolish it in the 1850s?

Slavery had been an American institution for well over 200 years. Why in the 1850’s were people, primarily in the North, becoming more vocal for its abolition?

I think that slavery was causing more problems than the whites wanted also the fact that people started to see slavery as morally wrong and to be honest out of everything slavery is the one thing the world could go without and I think people began to see that.
