Standard Oil was undermining fair competition in the marketplace.

Lloyd was a leading critic of monopolies and wrote articles attacking the railroads and Standard Oil. In his book, Wealth against Commonwealth, he mainly exposed and criticized the business methods of Standard Oil which was undermining competition through monopoly.
